Ish'Mael was once a sewage worker named Leonard Mael, but was trapped in level 150 by the Bog Deacon Azariah Dag after the Bunker's power shut down. Dag forced Leonard to be exposed to the Bogs for an extended period of time, where he was transformed into a hideous eldritch abomination. While his physical form may be intimidating, he has very little actual power. He weaknesses include: Night lights. Real confidence. Harsh language.
It appears that power granted by the Bogs is limited by one's will and greed. Leonard lusted for power over others and to scare others into submission. This was granted, albeit in a twisted kind of way.
He is shown to be very proficient in mind manipulation.
